bringing your blorbos over? grab a box 📦
CardChan does not need to be your one and only. Bring the work that belongs to you, keep chatting here, export a backup whenever you want, and leave your old setup intact until you're sure. No dramatic bridge-burning montage required.
fastest path: paste the old link
Open Upload → Create from URL and paste:
- ✦ a CharacterHub/Chub profile for its available cards, plus an avatar and bio if yours are blank;
- ✦ a single Chub character link for just that card;
- ✦ a BotBooru profile for its available cards, plus an avatar and bio if yours are blank; or
- ✦ a single BotBooru post link for just that card.
CardChan imports the cards into your account, skips cards you already have, matches familiar tags where it can, and sends new cards through the same robot review as any upload. A source site can hide gated cards or wobble halfway through; the import log tells you what arrived, what was skipped, and what failed.
got files instead? perfect
Drop batches of SillyTavern-style character-card PNGs, character JSON, and lore-book JSON into Upload. You don't have to sort the spicy ones out first — every character card goes past the robots before it goes live, and they mark the spicy ones they catch. Lore books are the exception: the ones you drop here publish safe-for-work, so bring an adult lore book through the lore book uploader instead, where you can mark it 🔞.
Files that do not contain a usable card or lore book fail individually, so one cursed little JSON does not ruin the whole moving van. Card JSON without cover art can still come over; CardChan queues a cover for it. Duplicates are skipped.
bringing a chat
Export a one-on-one chat as SillyTavern JSONL, then open Chats → import a chat. CardChan keeps the selected reply from each swipe and skips the alternate takes. Group-chat imports are not supported yet.
You can bring the transcript with no cast attached and choose a card later. Or, if you have a BYOK text model with a published context window of at least 100,000 tokens, let the robots read the conversation and make private draft cards for the people they find.
what changes when you land here?
Chub is a giant character ecosystem. BotBooru is gloriously direct about browsing and downloading cards. SillyTavern gives power users approximately every knob ever manufactured.
CardChan's angle is different: a hosted, phone-friendly neighborhood around the cards. Browse and swipe without installing a local server, tell the catalog your type, remix without overwriting the original, chat with characters and real friends in the same private room, and follow creators and collections.
You do not have to pick a winner. Keep SillyTavern for the advanced cockpit, keep your old accounts while you settle in, and use CardChan for the parts that feel better here.
exporting: because your stuff should have an exit
On Me → Export, start a library export and CardChan will message you when the zip is ready. It includes your non-draft cards, lore books, prompts, collection records, likes, and followed tags. Library exports are limited to once per day.
Your private CardChan chats can also export as SillyTavern JSONL, or as a zip with the readable story and stored chat images. Once another human joins a chat, publishing and exporting stay locked because a consent flow is not available yet. Their words are not yours to pack.
Keep the zip somewhere you control. A backup is not a breakup; it's just good manners from Future You. ♡
